I love the outdoors and nature. So it seems so natural

that I paint it. Though I resisted for many years,

it seemed like it all had been done before and so

many others are still doing it. Landscape painting is

very personal to me because I paint places that I

know and love. I never intended to sell the art work

when done until recently. Of course I am humbled

when walking though the halls of a great museum by

the awesome talents of the past. That is one of the

things I like best, the new appreciation I have for that

part of museums I used to breeze through. Now I

slow down to look, try and learn something or just

marvel.  I have sold some landscapes paintings for the

first time recently, I think my vision and love of subject

plus talent and knowledge of art history has started to

find it own way in the art world .

PAINTINGS FROM JAPAN

 T. H. HYNDMAN

Japan, September 1994 to March 1995

         Marunuma Artist in Residence Program

I'm eternally grateful for the opportunity I shared with the various genres art collector and founder of  the Marunuma Artist in Residence Program,            Mr. Katsushige Suzuki.

The twelve Japanese artist are some of the finest people and artist I have ever known. I was  immediately inspired and in culture shock  loving ever minute of my grand adventure.  I did many different styles of  artworks during my stay.  The series that really demonstrates my new inspirations are the   humorous ukiyo-e paintings. These works of art get  there strength from hundreds of years of Japanese art.

Before I went to Japan I was making hats all summer, funky animal art with wild patterns, and teaching a figure drawing course. I remember one day on the streets of Tokyo looking at a Utamaro postcard of a Japanese girl, a renowned beauty from a wood block print circa 1790s.  Looking at the fabric patterns, the way the figure is drawn,  I laughed, her hair looks like an octopus hat. These paintings are a few samples from my artistic wanderings from my trip.

The Coy Trout

In this painting I have used the trout as a self portrait symbol . Amerced in Japanese culture & artistic traditions the trout is jumping out to show itself.

TOMMY TIME

These works of art are not only functional but if you enjoy puns as much as I do they will show you a "good time". Every clock is unique, for example the two Watch Dog clocks are both blue and green in color and about the same size 12'' by 16'' and quite different. I would find it hard to choose only one, so get them both and give one to a friend. I have lots of fun with this artwork and over the years I have had a few gallery exhibitions of my time pieces at Symmetry Gallery in Saratoga Springs N.Y. which always has some in stock.

Time is money, average price $250 US
