| BED & BREAKFAST The Auld Haa House, Fair Isle, Shetland Islands. Built in the early 1700s, the three feet thick stone walls and stone roof have stood for centuries though the worst weather the North Sea, Atlantic and Artic have to offer. Under the Haa's crow stepped gables the former Lairds house has witnessed the coming and goings of the many tackmen, lighthouse men, knitters, and bird watchers. The Haa has a long tradition of entertaining guests, one of the most notable in 1814 Sir Walter Scott writer of : Ivanhoe, Waverley, and the poem Lady of the Lake. With all this history I'm pretty sure it will withstand a few adventurous Americans running a B&B and your possible stay as well. In March 2006, we traveled to Fair Isle to take a first hand look to see if we really want to move there. We had already been though a large and long selection process when The National Trust for Scotland told us we were one of two finalist families from the USA. They suggested we fly over to see if we really know what your getting into. These photo's are from that trip. I still don't know what we are getting into, I guess that's why they call it adventure.
